Richie Lea shared, "As I understand it, my Mom, Nan (Martin) Lea (Doug Martin branch) had won the desert contest a few years in a row with her famous banana pudding and was retired to allow for other competition. It always disappeared quickly. She sometimes makes a batch and takes to Uncle Pete because he loves it so much."
As for the competitive nature of the Martin dessert contests, Vicki Jowell shared that it was her sister who was banned for cheating.

Alvin Tipps' Deviled Egg Recipe
12 eggs, 1/2 cup mayo, 1 to 2 teaspoon of dill pickle juice, 1/2 to 1 teaspoon yellow mustard, 1/4 teaspoon salt.

12 eggs, 1/2 cup mayo, 1 to 2 teaspoon of dill pickle juice, 1/2 to 1 teaspoon yellow mustard, 1/4 teaspoon salt.
Directions:
- Boil eggs, peel, and cut solid eggs in half.
- Combine egg yolks and ingredients.
- Scoop mixture into empty egg halves.
- Sprinkle paprika over finished eggs.
- Taste eggs often.

GranGran's Coconut Pie Filling
1/3 cup flour, 2/3 cup sugar, 1/4 tsp salt, 2 cups mild, 3 egg yolks beaten (save whites for meringue), 2 tbsp butter, 1/2 tsp vanilla, 1 cup shredded coconut cooked pie crust.
Directions:

1/3 cup flour, 2/3 cup sugar, 1/4 tsp salt, 2 cups mild, 3 egg yolks beaten (save whites for meringue), 2 tbsp butter, 1/2 tsp vanilla, 1 cup shredded coconut cooked pie crust.
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- mix flour, sugar, salt, milk in saucepan
- Cook on medium/low heat, stirring constantly, until soft boil and thickens (do not burn)
- Remove from heat
- Add vanilla and butter, let melt
- Let cool for 20 minutes
- Make your favorite meringue with egg whites
- Pour filling in crust, top with meringue
- Bake 15-20 minutes, let cool
- enjoy and pretend you are at the family reunion

1 cup sugar, 3 tbsp cocoa, 3 tbsp flour, 1 small can evaporated milk, 1 cup water, pinch of salt, 1 tsp butter, 1 tsp vanilla, 3 egg yolks beaten (save whites for meringue), cooked pie crust
Directions:
